Wadena-Deer Creek High School band students Drew Larson and Matt Green recently participated in the Bemidji State University Honor Band at the college's campus.

Each year, band directors from around the region are asked by BSU to recommend their most talented musicians to participate in this one-day honor band on the BSU campus. The one-day event includes rehearsals, sectionals and performances by BSU student ensembles. The event was organized by Erika Svanoe, director of bands at BSU.

WDC High School Band Director Lisa Weniger recommended junior band students Green and Larson for the honor band. This was Green's second year of attending the honor-band event at BSU. He plays the bass clarinet and enjoyed the opportunity to meet other musicians from around the area, he said. Larson, who plays the trumpet, picked up many valuable tips and techniques in the master's class. He said it was a worthwhile opportunity to learn from college music instructors.
