Your Letters: Minnesota tax laws make retired military feel unwelcome
Wadena Minnesota 314 S. Jefferson 56482

Many retired military members have had to endure incredible sacrifices while defending this nation's freedom. Minnesota is currently one of only six states that taxes military retired pay and survivor benefit plan annuities for military widows.

Neighboring states like Wisconsin and 43 other states attract retired military members who find work, invest in homes and spend their retirement pay there. House File 82 allows an income tax subtraction for military retired pay. This legislation has passed out of Veterans Service Division Committee and will now move forward, one step closer to becoming law.

Attracting more retired military to move to Minnesota after 20 plus of service to our nation would be economically smart for cash-strapped Minnesota. Calling your support of HF 82 to your state representative and state senator will help ensure the passage of HF 82.
