Your Letters: Budget: which is it?

I'm confused on the issue of the state budget problem and the upcoming possible government shutdown. Evidently I'm not the only one. Republicans say that this is the largest proposed budget in Minnesota history. Democrats say it is a billion dollar cut. It can't be both. Each side points fingers at the other, and Governor Dayton even wants to bring in a federal mediator or have the courts resolve the problem.

If either is the answer, then what are we paying our governor and the legislators for? It all boils down to the state, like everyone else, needing to live within its budget. You either support the Republican legislators' seeming willingness to shut down the government in order to stay within the budget or Governor Dayton's seeming willingness to shutdown the government in order to exceed the budget.
