Your Letter: Elevator inspection bill deserved passage

Our schools are really feeling the pinch of this tight economy. The state is at a deficit and unable to provide additional funds for education, so it's more important than ever to find ways we can help our schools cut costs.

That's why I am disappointed the majority party denied an amendment I authored to spare schools from having to pay an elevator inspection fee. The amendment was defeated by a 74-57 vote. This exemption wouldn't be a cure-all for our schools' budgets, but it is an example of simple, common-sense legislation that can provide some breathing room.

A buck is a buck the way I look at it; my intent was to help schools save a few.
