Yellowjackets score big to topple Wolverines
Ben Bucholz poured in 32 points as the Perham Yellowjackets handed the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines their most lop-sided loss in a month Thursday night, 82-63.
The Yellowjackets racked up an impressive 47 points in the first half of play and went into halftime with a 15-point lead.
Zach Gabbard and Nick Tobkin backed up Buchholz with 14 points apiece. The Yellowjackets topped the 80-point mark for the fifth time this year as they improved their record to 18-5. The Yellowjackets entered the final week of the regular season tied for top honors in the Heart O' Lakes Conference with Breckenridge and Hawley.
The Wolverines had 11 players scoring with Scott Syverson and Aaron Kern leading the pack with 12 points each. Ryan Nelson added 10 points. Tom Van Erp's club nailed eight treys and went 13 of 17 at the line but did not have the services of Jordan Reed, their top scorer, who scored a school-record 46 points in an 85-63 victory over Crookston Feb. 12.
