Yellowjackets fly past Wolverines 76-6
Carter Wright pinned Perham's Gage Paurus in just 29 seconds at 113 pounds Tuesday for Wadena-Deer Creek's lone victory in a 76-6 dual loss to the Yellowjackets.
The Wolverines surrendered 36 points on forfeits but gave the Yellowjackets eight matches. The Yellowjackets won six of those matches by fall. Chase Curtis defeated Wadena-Deer Creek's Tristin Godel on a major decision at 120.
The Wolverines will face Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Tuesday at Bertha. Norm Gallant's crew is slated to see action Friday and Dec. 15 at the Big Bear Invitational in Cass Lake.

Barthel claims consolation title in WDC Invite
Wadena-Deer Creek's Devin Barthel defeated Badger-Greenbush-Middle River's Cody Olson on a fall at the 3:18 mark Dec. 1 to earn consolation honors at 132 in the Wadena-Deer Creek Invitational.
Barthel opened the meet with a pin of United North Central's Logan Walz at the 3:34 mark. He then ran into eventual champion Noah Bernier of Thief River Falls and lost a tough 2-1 decision. Barthel earned his shot at the consolation title by defeating Perham's John Hubner 14-0 in consolation round semifinal action.
WDC's Cody Bauer came up short in his bid for consolation honors at 126 when he lost on a pin at the 1:43 mark to Thief River Falls' Dre Malone.
Dalton Baker won the 220 title for Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale by pinning Tyshaun Brown of Thief River Falls at the 2:09 mark.
Anthony Kern (106), Justin Gordon (120), Dakota Finck (152) and Dillon Card (195) all claimed runner-up honors for Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale. Card, who qualified for the Class A state tournament last year as a freshman, lost a tough 7-5 overtime decision to United North Central's Taylor Carlson in the 195-pound finals.
