With winter-like weather conditions lingering in west central Minnesota, the opportunity to play on the same indoor field that was formerly the home of the Minnesota Twins was unique.

“The Metrodome was a great experience for our players,” WDC Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff said. “It’s an experience they will always remember. What a great game, especially for a March game with both teams having limited gym practice.”

The Wolverines grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as Mackinley Wright drew a walk, stole second, moved to third on a single by Wyatt Weber and scored on a single by Cory McManigle.

The Raiders came right back in the bottom half of the inning as Dillon Card led off with a double, moved up on a single by Eric Blaha and scored on a single by Nick Brown.

Steve Riewer’s BHV crew grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Card again doubled and scored.

The Wolverines knotted the game at 2-2 in the fifth as Matt Laughlin doubled and scored with two down.

WDC’s Joey Price pinch-hit for Isaac Laughlin in the sixth and tripled with one down. After McManigle flied out, a fielding error allowed Price to score.

Preston Riewer led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk. He stole second and then third with two out and came in on a balk to tie the game 3-all.

Matt Laughlin got the Wolverines going in the seventh with a lead-off single. He stole second and was joined the threat when Krause reached on a walk. Wright walked to load the sacks but with Weber at the plate, Laughlin was forced at home when he attempted to score. Krause and Wright were both able to move up on the play and Weber reached to load the bases again. McManigle watched four straight balls to draw the walk which forced in Krause with the winning run.

Travis Eckel kept the Raiders alive in the bottom half of the seventh when he drew a one-out walk and stole two bases to put himself in scoring position with two out. Josh Gilb struck out swinging to end the game.

Matt Laughlin went the first four frames on the hill for WDC before giving way to Wright, who pitched two innings and gained the win. Isaac Laughlin earned the save with one inning of relief.

“Our pitching was great and it was backed by an error-free game by our defense,” Dykhoff said.
