Caitlin Volkmann and Hope Theisen paced WDC's strong defensive effort with 13 and 12 digs respectively.

"Our defense is just our cornerstone," WDC Head Coach Sue Volkmann said.

The state-ranked Wolverines travel to Perham Tuesday, before returning to Wadena Thursday for a Mid-State Conference contest with Pequot Lakes.

Emily Miron recorded 20 kills and Caitlin Volkmann added 10 Thursday, as the Wolverines won three of four games from Moorhead at new WDC secondary gym.

Heather Theisen dished out a whopping 35 assists in the four-game series and Hope Theisen came up 23 digs.

The use of an ineligible player cost the Wolverines an official victory, but WDC Head Coach Sue Volkmann indicated it will not hurt WDC's standing in the section.

Casey Volkmann, a seventh-grader on this year's varsity team, played in two junior varsity games and three varsity matches. When the varsity series went to the fourth game and Volkmann served, the Wolverines were called for an infraction of Minnesota High School League rules. Players can only appear in five games or less.

"I wasn't paying enough attention," Volkmann said.
