Wolverines test field in Swain Invitational

Neil Janson finished 83rd in varsity competition and Emma Schmitz won the JV meet Saturday in the 61st annual Swain Invitational at Enger Park in Duluth.

Janson dropped 11 seconds from his time in the boys' 5,000-meter race to run a 18:35. Joey Pate was 125th in the varsity race with a 19:18 - an 18-second time drop.

Schmitz knocked 32 seconds off her time in the JV race or a 16:53. Other WDC girls finishing in the 72-runner race were Liz Peterson (12th, 18:44), Brianna Rosenthal (36th, 20:27), Gabby Ross (51st, 21:35), Sydney Greenwaldt (53rd, 21:50) and Shaye Blessing (55th, 21:51).

WDC's Brody Wangsness ran a 62nd place time of 16:26 in the sophomore and under race. Other WDC finishers in the 197-runner field were Austin Sutherland (97th, 17:08), Toby Wood (137th, 18:28) and Joe Najjar (168th, 19:50).

The Wolverines will compete in the Mid-State Conference meet Oct. 13 at Staples.
