Wolverines teeing up veteran roster
The Wadena-Deer Creek girls' golf team will be mixing youth with experience this season as they shoot for a strong 2012 season.
Anchoring the team will be returning letterwinners Amanda Kramer, Breanna Speed, Paige Hartman, Ella Harrison and Hope Theisen. Past letterwinner Heather Theisen is also back with the team. Kramer and Speed are the only two seniors on the team. Hartman, Harrison and the Theisen sisters are sophomores.
Hartman was the most successful golfer on Missy Tabery's team last year as she capped her season by qualifying for the Section 8AA tournament.
"We have some great talent returning so hopefully we can improve on that with the possibility of the team advancing to section," Tabery said.
The Wolverines will have a promising cast of younger players led by freshmen Tabetha Baker, Anissa Mench, Kaitlin Warren and Anna Kraemer. Eighth-graders on the club include Lydia Lindquist, Ayanna Doll and Jessica Langer. Gabbi Ross is the team's lone seventh-grader.
The Detroit Lakes Lakers are already favored to defend their Mid-State Conference title. The Lakers won the section crown and placed second in the state meet.
The Wolverines will host two meets during the season. Their own invitational is set May 3 at Whitetail Run. They will also host a co-ed meet with the WDC boys May 19.
Tabery sees her team go into action April 21 at The Legacy near Brainerd.
