The top-ranked Wolverines had defeated the No. 2 Rebels 3-2 in the final regular season match for both clubs but it was DGF that grabbed the first game 26-24. The Wolverines evened the match with a 25-22 victory in Game 2 but the Rebels dominated Game 3 25-17. Faced with elimination, the Wolverines responded with a 25-20 victory in Game 4. They breezed to a 15-4 victory in the fifth and deciding game behind dominating play from Miron and Noon.

"This was a match with a lot of emotion and intensity. I am extremely proud of our kids for fighting through that together and coming out with a huge win. DGF is an excellent team and played a great game against us," WDC Head Coach Sue Volkmann said.

Four WDC players had perfect, double-figure serving nights. Noon was 22 of 22 with two aces while Sydney Schissel was 19 of 19 with two aces.

Caitlin Volkmann and Hope Theisen anchored the back row with 20 and 19 digs respectively. Schissel chipped in with 11.

Miron stepped up with a big defensive game at the net. The 6-2 standout blocked 18 DGF shots.

Heather Theisen had a busy setting night with 55 assists.

Emily Frink and Hannah Young led the Rebels with 12 kills apiece while Mandy Mercil and Kyla Otte combined for 39 digs.

The victory propelled the 25-4 Wolverines into the Section 8AA championship match for the fourth straight year. The Wolverines will face Thief River Falls in a 7 p.m. match Saturday at Hawley. The winner advances to the Class AA state tournament Nov. 10-12 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The Rebels, who last won the section title in 2007, finished the season with a 21-8 record.
