The Wolverines racked up 22 points in the first quarter with Andrew VanErp scoring on an 8-yard run and a 45-yard fumble return. Blaine Cooper scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 4-yard carry.

While his offense dominated the rushing game by a convincing 226-yard margin, Kangas credited his defense with giving the Wolverines their quick start.

"Our defense set up our offense to start the game," Kangas said. "I think we did what we wanted to defensively, and that was stop the run."

The Wolverines were stymied in the second quarter and the Thunder cut their lead to 10 with two scoring aerials. Tommy Geisenhof found John Dinkel open for a 45-yard TD in the first quarter and hit Dinkel on a 20-yard scoring route in the second.

"They had some very quick, skilled people," Kangas said.

Evan VanErp's 43-yard gallop started the third quarter scoring for WDC. Jake Krause broke loose for a 20-yard scoring run for WDC's second TD. Geisenhof hooked up with Dylan Warner on a 20-yard play to cut WDC's lead to 16 after three quarters.

Both clubs racked up two touchdowns in the final stanza. Blaine Cooper caught a 4-yard scoring pass from VanErp and then broke off a 44-yard TD run. Geisenhof hit Cody Kilfoyle-Steward for a 9-yard score and Preston Pung went in from 13 yards out.

Krause had 120 yards on 18 carries for WDC. Cooper, a sophomore, was right behind with 118 yards on 12 attempts. Evan VanErp came up with 106 yards on 15 carries and Andrew VanErp added 61 on 12 attempts.

Pung carried the rushing load for LPGE with 109 yards on 10 attempts. Dinkel, Warner and Pung combined for six catches and 145 yards.

Wyatt Weber led the Wolverines with nine total tackles, and Joey Price added seven. Krause and Mike Paavola were both in on six stops apiece. Chris Steward recorded 2 sacks.

The victory even WDC's season record at 2-2. The Wolverines host United North Central in a 7 p.m. Homecoming game Friday.
