Wolverines settle for Mid-State split
Cory Tumberg sparked a 17-hit attack Tuesday to give Wadena-Deer Creek a 12-2 victory in Game 1 and a split in a Mid-State Conference twinbill with Staples-Motley.
Tumberg had four hhits and a pair of doubles in the opener while Jake Krause came up with two hits, including a double, and two runs. Derrick Rude went 2-for-4 in the win with a solo home run. Kenny Sakry banged out three hits in four trips to the plate and drove in tow runs.
Ryan Redfield gained the mound win for WDC while Alex Jansson took the loss.
Jansson ripped three hits, including a round-tripper, and scored four times as the Cardinals came back to win the nightcap 8-6.
Jake Rude went 2-for-3 with two ribbies and a homer. Derrick Rude was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Tumberg added two more hits.
Jeremy Hoemberg picked up the victory on the hill and David Najjar was hung with the loss.
The Wolverines dropped to 4-6 in Mid-State Conference play and 5-8 overall.

The Yellowjackets extended their winning streak to nine games Friday with a doubleheader sweep of the Wolverines.
Jesse Hein doubled twice, scored three times and drove in two runs for the Yellowjackets in Game 1. Mac Link went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. David Alstadt came up with two hits, two runs and two ribbies for Perham.
Matt Laughlin went 3-for-3 for the Wolverines in Game 1 and collected the club's only extra base hit.
The second game went just five innings as the Yellowjackets out-hit the Wolverines 14-2 and scored in every inning.
T.J. Studer went 3-for-5 in the victory with two runs and four RBIs. Mac Link homered, scored four times and drove in four ribbies. Gabe Pankonin also homered for Perham.
Jesse Hein went the first three innings for Perham before Ivan Nodsle came on to pitch the last two innings. Hein got the victory in the two-hit shutout.
Jake Rude and Ryan Redfield doubled for WDC's two safeties.
