The Wolverines beat the Hawley Nuggets at their own game Thursday night with a strong defensive game.
The Nuggets, who are allowing only 36.4 points a game, the stingiest mark in Section 8AA, were held to just 11 second half points by the Wolverines, who bumped off previously unbeaten Pequot Lakes Tuesday night.
"That was an outstanding defensive effort, probably the best we have played all year," WDC head coach Keith Ferris said, praising his club.
The victory gave the Wolverines a 6-1 mark against section foes and a 12-2 record overall.
Emily Miron scored 13 points for WDC while Avery Jackson added 11. Courtney Volkmann mixed nine points with a good floor game that saw the senior guard grabbing eight steals and dishing out six assists.
Allie Sannes paced the Nuggets with nine points.
The Nuggets were 28-1 last year and represented Section 8AA in the state tournament. Their only loss was to eventual state champ Minnehaha Academy.
