The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines flashed their defensive skills Tuesday night as they held Staples-Motley in check for a 47-34 victory.

"It was a great defensive game," WDC head coach Keith Ferris said after watching his squad reel off their third straight victory. "Both defenses played very physical."

Ferris felt the Wolverines prevailed because of their ability to score in transition and hold the Cards to just 14 points in the second half on their home court. Courtney Volkmann and Rachel Craig sparked WDC in the second half scoring 20 of the team's 24 points. Volkmann pumped in 14 points and dished out five assists. Craig tallied 13 points to go along with a team-high and tied teammate Emily Miron for rebounding honors with seven.

Jasmine McGillvray paced the Cardinals with 11 points.

"One key to our victory was our ability to find the open shooter," WDC head coach Keith Ferris said. "The girls were able to work the ball around until we had a good look at the basket."

Four Sebeka players scored in double figures led by Alicia Boe with 18. Katianne Brockpahler canned 14 points while Jessica Lillquist scored 13 and Katie Huttunen netted 12.
