Wolverines post 22-12 win over Thunder
Nick Carlson rushed 27 times for 208 yards and scored a touchdown Friday as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines beat Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 22-12 for their first win of the season.
Austin Sutherland gave the Wolverines a 6-0 first quarter lead when he found the end zone from eight yards out.
Zach Schertler rambled 27 yards for a WDC touchdown in the second quarter and Blaine Cooper tacked on the conversion.
The Thunder scored twice in the second quarter on touchdown runs by Bryant Tarin and Sam Ecker and the first half ended with the Wolverines on top 14-12.
Carlson iced the win in the fourth quarter when he exploded on a 67-yard touchdown jaunt. The WDC standout now has 637 yards on 97 carries for the season.
Wyatt Weber made four solo tackles and assisted on seven others in the victory. Dylan Dumpprope had two of WDC’s three sacks.
The win ended a 10-game victory drought stretching back to Sept. 21 2012 when WDC defeated LPGE 52-36. The Wolverines are now 1-5 heading into a 7 p.m. home game Friday with Class AA state power Barnesville.
