Wolverines own the ice against WHA
Matthew Spar iced four goals and Brandyn Swanson had a hat trick as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines hammered Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 17-2 Tuesday night in the WDC Holiday Tournament.
The Wolverines entered the game with 16 goals in nine season matches. The victory gave Dan Savoie's club their second win in 10 games.
Ten WDC skaters scored goals in the victory. Brennan Wallace and David Najjar came up with two goals apiece. Logan Meyer and Taylor Bienusa combined for seven assists and two goals. Trenton Wollenburg had a playmaker in the rout.
Zach Strandie pushed home both goals for the Wolves. Cole Garoutte was credited with two assists.
Dylan Isola picked up his first victory in goal as he recorded 14 saves.
The Wolverines are slated to open their January schedule Tuesday on the road against Prairie Center. The Wolverines will host Detroit Lakes Thurday.

The Blades peppered the Wadena-Deer Creek goal with 17 shots in the second period Monday night to break open the first round game.
Matt Spar's first varsity goal at the 7:02 mark gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the opening period. Logan Meyer and Mason Freeman earned assists on the goal.
The Blades struck very late in the period as Brandon Wixo scored from close range at the 17:48 mark on a feed from Adam Wiertzema.
The Blades owned the second period 17-7 with Wiertzema icing two goals and Cody Bronson scoring once. Wiertzema's second goal came on the power play.
Brandon Swanson was able to counter with a power play goal at the 17:35 mark with an assist from Kyle Beiswenger.
Trenton Wollenburg's goal just 17 seconds into the third period brought the Wolverines within two. Taylor Bienusa was credited with an assist.
The Blades out-shot the Wolverines 12-8 in the third period and saw Matt Berger score at 19:04.
Dylan Isola and Tyler Muehler split time in goal for the Wolverines and combined for 36 saves. Wyatt Herrick stopped 23 shots for Wahpeton.
