Dylan Zutz iced two first period goals as the Red Lake Falls Eagles whipped the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 5-3 Saturday afternoon at the Wadena Community Center.


The Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals by Logan Meyer and Taylor Bienusa. Kyle Beiswenger earned the assist on Bienusa's goal.

Zutz brought the Eagles back with back-to-back goals at 6:39 and 7:00. Cody Hanson scored the period's final goal at the 12:50 mark.

The Eagles added an insurance goal at 5:42 in the second period on a goal by Channing Sandberg.

Trenton Wollenburg brought the Wolverines within one 35 seconds into the third period off a feed by Bienusa.

Robbie Glass scored the game's final goal at 12:23 of the third period.

Tyler Muehler stopped 33 shots for the Wolverines. Zach Page blocked 16 shots in the win.

The Wolverines be trying to snap a six-game losing string Monday when the face Wahpeton in the first round of the Wolverines Invitational at 7:15 p.m. The Wolverines are slated to face WHA at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday and Mora at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Dan Ricke and Kyle Kanten scored two goals apiece Thursday night as the Panthers overpowered the Wolverines.

Tyler Muehler did a superb job of keeping the Wolverines in the game until the third period when the Panthers struck four times. The WDC goalie blocked 54 shots in the game. The Panthers put 49 shots on goal in the first two periods while limiting the Wolverines to just six shots.

Kevin McMorrow was credited with two assists in the win.

Taylor Bienusa got the game's first goal on the scoreboard with an assist from Trent Wollenburg at the 11:37 mark of the opening period.

The Wolverines were 0-for-8 in power play situations.
