Joe Wallgren pitched a three-hitter in Game 2 Tuesday as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines gained a Mid-State Conference split with the Perham Yellowjackets.
Wallgren fanned six and walked two in a rain-shortened 2-0 victory in five innings. Perham’s Jack Stigman took the loss despite giving up only three safeties.
Christian Berg executed a run-scoring suicide squeeze for the Wolverines.
Eric Brauch held the Wolverines to three hits as Perham claimed the opener 2-1.
Matt Laughlin held Perham to five hits in the loss.
Jake Krause collected two of WDC’s three hits.
The split gave Kyle Dykhoff’s Wolverines a 6-9 mark overall and left Hans Hanson’s Perham squad with a 9-5 record.

Poor fielding play stung the Wolverines in a doubleheader loss to the Panthers.
The Wolverines committed nine miscues in Game 1 and saw the Panthers end the game in five frames with a nine-run fifth inning.
Isaac Laughlin started on the hill for WDC and was touched for eight runs, all of them unearned. Jake Krause pitched one inning of relief.
The Wolverines only managed three hits off Park Rapids’ Jordan McCollum.
Chris Goplerud doubled twice for the Panthers and brought home two runs. David Dirks was 2-for-3 and scored twice. Tyler McCollum and Drew Bade also scored two runs.
Both teams came out swinging the bats in the nightcap and the end of one saw them tied at 4-all.
Dirks shook off his rough first inning to fire six straight innings of shutout ball. Dirks only fanned two while surrendering nine hits but he did not walk a batter.
Chris Berg went the first 5 1/3 innings for the Wolverines. Alex Redfield finished up
The Panthers scored six times in the final two innings.
Berg and Swanson both went 2-for-4 in the loss.

Matt Laughlin fanned 10 as the Wolverines defeated the Bulldogs May 16 in Battle Lake.
The WDC righty threw six innings of shutout ball and allowed just two hits.
Kyle Dykhoff’s Wolverines only managed five hits off Jake Trosdahl, who went all the way for OTC. Trosdahl allowed the Wolverines to grab a 1-0 lead in the first but then pitching four straight shutout innings and saw his team climb on top 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Wolverines turned the tables for the last time in the top of the sixth when they plated three runs.
Mitchell Swanson went 1-for-4, scored once and drove in a run. Ricky Price also drove in a run for WDC and Alex Redfield delivered the RBI hit that put the Wolverines on top 3-2.
Trosdahl and Brandon DeBauche scored runs for the Bulldogs. Zach Torgerson was credited with OTC’s only RBI.
