Wolverines fall short in 57-46 playoff loss to Pelican Rapids

Bailey Strand and the Pelican Rapids Vikings made a 28-19 halftime lead stand up Saturday night as they defeated the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 57-46 in South Sub-Section 8AA play at the Concordia Fieldhouse in Moorhead.

Strand led all scorers with 19 points and did most impressive work at the free throw stripe where the sophomore standout was a perfect 10 for 10.

Emily Miron led the Wolverines with 12 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots. Hope Theisen and Avery Jackson also canned a dozen points and Theisen dished out six assists. "We didn't shoot the ball like we usually do," WDC Head Coach Keith Ferris said.

Double figure scoring by four players and stingy defensive play carried the Wolverines past the Hornets Thursday night in Southwest Sub-Section 5A tournament play at WDC Elementary.

The Wolverines held the Hornets to just 11 first half points in grabbing a 25-point cushion at the midway point.

Caitlin Volkmann had a solid game for the Wolveirnes with 16 points, five assists and five steals. Backing Volkmann up in the scoring were Hope Theisen with 14 points and Melissa Moenkedick and Avery Jackson with 10 each.
