Wolverines end regular season with two victories

Wadena-Deer Creek's Jared Reinitz (24) goes up for two against New York Mills' Chance Pettow (11) in the first half of Tuesday night's game at the WDC Middle/Senior High.

Blake Connell's 25-point night sparked the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Friday in a 75-62 win at Frazee.

The Wolverines closed out the regular season with their second straight victory and improved their overall mark to 6-20. Jason Mielke's eighth-seeded club will now face top-seeded Perham Thursday in Sub-Section 8AA playoff action.

Dylan Dumpprope and Jared Reinitz joined Connell in double figures scoring 21 and 19 points respectively. The Wolverines came up with 13 treys.

"This was our best overall effort all season," WDC head coach Jason Mielke said. "Our team played outstanding defense together as a unit. Frazee dominated us inside the first time we played them in December but credit our kids who shut down their game."

Matt Tangen paced the Hornets with 16 points., Brady Bellefueille scored 15 points and Tanner Karger tallied 14.

Isaac Laughlin hauled down eight rebounds as the Wolverines edged the Hornets 27-25 on the boards.

The loss dropped Frazee to 6-19.
