Wolverines end regular season with a 71-62 win

Hope Theisen scored 19 points and Caitlin Volkmann added 14 as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines topped the Panthers 71-62 Feb. 21 at Park Rapids.


Charity Ridlon chalked up 17 points for the Panthers, and Katie Klein and Gabie Johnson combined for 21 points.

The Wolverines finished their Mid-State Conference season with a 5-4 mark. WDC was 16-9 going into the South Sub-Section 8AA tournament.

Hawley was ranked No. 1 in the south half of the section with Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (2), Pelican Rapids (3), Frazee (4), Wadena-Deer Creek (5), Breckenridge (6), Barnesville (7) and Perham (8).

Crookston secured the No. 1 seed in the north half of Section 8AA, followed by Pequot Lakes (2), Crosby-Ironton (3), Warroad (4), Bagley (5), Park Rapids (6) and Roseau (7).

The south half semifinal games will be held Saturday at Concordia College in Moorhead at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Bemidji State will host the north half semis at 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. The south half championship will be decided Tuesday at Concordia, with the north half title game set Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the Bemidji State court. Friday's Section 8AA championship game will be held at Bemidji State beginning at 7 p.m.
