Kyle Dykhoff’s Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines opened the season Tuesday by splitting a doubleheader with Mid-State Conference foe Pequot Lakes.

Karl Satterlund drove in a pair of runs as Pequot Lakes posted a 4-3 victory in the opener. The Patriots were down 3-2 when they rallied in the top of the seventh.

Eight different players collected hits for the Wolverines. Jake Dykhoff led the attack with two hits in three trips. Wyatt Weber, Isaac Laughlin, Ricky Price, Dylan Phillips, Mike Behl and Wyatt Fitzsimmons all collected solo hits.

Tanner Horn started on the hill for WDC but gave way to Joe Wallgren in the second. Wallgren pitched five innings and was in position to gain the win until the seventh. Dykhoff was hung with the loss.

Austin Messenbrink went all the way for the Patriots.

Dykhoff went 3-for-4 as the Wolverines rallied from a 3-0 deficit in Game 2 to win 7-4.

Price went 2-for-3 in the win and Zach Schertler scored twice.

Laughlin hurled the first two innings before giving way to Price who blanked the Patriots over the last five frames. Price notched seven strikeouts.
