Dan Savoie would like to see his Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines get another shot at Little Falls after Monday night's wild 7-5 game at the Wadena Community Center.

The visiting Flyers came out on top in the 12-goal game but the Wolverines showed some missing offensive punch by pushing five of their 18 shots on goal past Little Falls goalie Mike Sobieck.

Tyler Muehler faced three times as many shots as Sobieck and still managed to keep his team in the hunt. The senior goalie kicked out 48 of 55 shots in the only regular season meeting of the two Section 6A clubs.

"It was a fantastic game and a good battle," Savoie said. "We battled back and forth."

Savoie juiced up his offense by switching Logan Meyer and Trent Wollenberg to new spots. Meyer moved to a forward position while Wollenberg went back on defense.

With Muehler and the WDC defense keeping the Flyers in check, the Wolverines found themselves down by just one goal, 3-2, going into the third period. Brandyn Swanson put WDC's first goal of the game on the board at the 1:29 mark of the second period to tie the game at one. Goals by Joey Hanowski and Michael Holthaus were answered by a goal by Meyer at the 11:39 mark. Swanson was credited with the assist.

The Flyers made the most of some extended ice time in front of the WDC goal in the third period. Fenske, Holthaus and Austin Bjorge hammered the Wolverines with three straight goals to give the Flyers a 6-2 cushion.

The Wolverines scored three of the game's final four goals. Back-to-back goals by Taylor Bienusa and David Najjar cut Little Falls' lead to one with goals at 7:47 and 11:23. Fenske scored a big insurance goal for the Flyers at the 13:50 mark. Duke Harrison pounded WDC's final goal into the net with an assist from Meyer at 16:52.

The loss dropped WDC to 4-16 while the victory improved Little Falls' record to 5-15-1.
