Wolverines can't stop Pequot's Moody
The question of "what do you do with Kurtis Moody?" loomed large for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines last Thursday in their South Sub-Section 8AA playoff opener with Pequot Lakes.
The 6-4 senior was trouble all right. He scored a game-high 22 points in a 65-41 victory. But he was not the big reason.
"It was one of those games where we were going to let those guys not named Moody or (Tomas) Parker shoot those jump shots and they made them," WDC head coach Tom VanErp said.
The Patriots canned eight of their 15 three-pointers for an unbelievable 53 percent. Logan Lange backed up Moody's big scoring night with 12 points.
The Wolverines had a rough time holding onto the ball as they coughed it up 30 times to Pequot's 12. VanErp's club did rebound well grabbing 30 boards to Pequot's 29.
The victory effectively ended the season for the Wolverines at 9-16 but it could not spoil the evening for WDC star Jordan Reed. The 6-5 senior capped his prep career in style by scoring 21 points to pass the 1,000-point scoring mark by three points. Reed is just the 10th player from Wadena or Deer Creek to top 1,000 points.
