Born and raised in Verndale, Hess completed his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis School of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency in Sioux Falls, S.D., earlier this summer.

Judy White, clinic administrator, said she is excited to welcome Hess back to his hometown and to his practice at WMC.

"We strive to attract and retain the highest quality providers for our health care team," White said. "Dr. Hess, who comes to us with impeccable credentials and recommendations, will help us maintain those high standards and our commitment to the health and well-being of the communities we serve."

As a family practice physician, Hess is trained in all the major areas of family medicine and is qualified to care for the medical needs of the entire family, ranging from newborns to geriatrics.

He will provide prenatal and obstetrics care at WMC and delivery services at TCH.

In his free time, Hess enjoys hunting, fishing, bowling, and listening to public radio.

Hess and his wife, Shyla, who is also a Verndale native, have two children, Aubrey, 4, and Nicole, 2. They will make their home in rural Verndale.

Hess is looking forward to getting to know people in the community and providing quality medical care to them.

"Having grown up in Verndale, I'm particularly excited about returning to the area," said Hess said. "Both Shyla and I are excited about raising our kids in the same community we grew up in. I look forward to building a diverse practice with long-lasting ties to my patients and the community."

To make an appointment to see Hess, call the Wadena Medical Center appointment desk at (218) 631-1100 or toll-free at (800) 880-DOCS (3627). Clinic hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
