Wine and Chocolate event coming Feb. 11
The 9th annual Evening of Wine and Chocolate will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Depot in Wadena.
Kay Browne, one of the organizers, said it is a night of candle-lit romantic ambiance but it is not for couples only - people arrive and socialize with friends too.
There is table of appetizers and cheeses that complement the wine, and the desserts are "to die for," Browne said.
"This year we're having red velvet cake, German chocolate cake, almond cake, we're having fruit tarts ... many different types of chocolates," she said.
She added that the cheese has been outstanding the past few years, and volunteer Kim Beiswenger has wonderful ideas for different kinds of cheeses to bring in.
The appetizers are different every year and Browne said it is a good chance for people to try foods that are not otherwise easily available in the area.
Ales and non-alcoholic beverages will be available as well.
This year's silent auction will focus on wine instead of many different things.
"We're asking people who are wine collectors, or who would just like to donate their favorite bottle of wine, to donate some bottles for the wine auction," she said.
Browne said this event has become The Depot's main fundraiser and helps it to stay open with the heating and cooling bills, restorations and other expenses. It is always held the Saturday before Valentine's Day.
When The Depot was restored and opened to the public in the first place in 2008, it was partly because of the funds raised at Wine and Chocolate events which had started several years before.
The fiscal agent is Partners for a Healthy Wadena Region.
The cost is $30 at the door, or $25 in advance. For tickets, questions or to donate a bottle of wine, call Barb Kane at (218) 849-6087.
