Win pushes Wolverines to .500
Jordan Reed kicked in with 22 points Friday in leading the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines to a 66-39 victory over Lynn Peterson's Staples-Motley Cardinals.
Isaiah Toedter, Josh Sherman and Ben Birch backed up Reed's offensive effort with 12, 10 and 10 points respectively. Toedter made all of his points on three-pointers.
"We accomplished our pre-game goals of [taking] care of the ball," WDC head coach Tom VanErp said. "We still had 20 turnovers but a number of those came late in the game."
The taller Wolverines out-rebounded the Cardinals 48-23 with Reed's eight boards leading a balanced WDC effort.
Evan VanErp had a good floor game with eight assists and seven steals.
Kyle Jansson and Tyler Glines both scored eight in the loss.
The victory put the Wolverines at the .500 mark for the season after losing their first two games this year to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and Pequot Lakes.
The Wolverines are slated to play Fergus Falls in the first round of the Fergus Falls Holiday Tournament Tuesday. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
The four-team tournament will include Breckenridge and Maranatha Christian of Brooklyn Park.
The tournament wraps up Wednesday.
