Wendell Jenson, 68, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of the Wadena area, passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2009, on the Alaskan Highway in the Yukon of Canada.
He was born March 16, 1941, to Kenneth and Edna (Sowers) Jenson in Oylen. He married Janice Altenbrun on Sept. 5, 1985 in Sisseton, S.D. He resided in Minnesota for 66 years, working as a truck driver and mechanic, and will be remembered as the owner of A-1 Service Center west of Wadena. His past two years were spent in Arizona. His interests were motorcycles, NASCAR races and guns, and he enjoyed drinking coffee while visiting with relatives and friends.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, July 21, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with the Rev. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his wife, Janice of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Kenneth (Pam) Jenson, and Jacob Jenson, both of Wadena; stepsons, Richard (Debbie) Altenbrun of Columbia Heights, Minn., Terry (Lorraine) Altenbrun of Phoenix, and Larry (Rose) Altenbrun of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Myron (Marcella) Jenson of Pioneer, Calif., and Kermit (Margie) Jenson of Wadena; sister, Audrey (Ken) Boggs of Burlington, Ontario, Canada; a special mother-in-law, Phyllis Riediger of Bisbee, N.D.; sisters-in-law, Sharon Simon of Billings, Mont., Carol Berns of Young, Ariz., Linda (Ken) Myer of Bottineau, N.D., and Claudia Sarkilahti of Coon Rapids; brother-in-law, Arlan Riediger of Gillette, Wyo.; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Edna; brothers, Dewey and Norman; and an infant sister.
