Wegschied named most valuable for 2010-11
Senior Jared Wegscheid has received Wadena-Deer Creek's Most Valuable Wrestler award for the 2010-2011 season.
Wegscheid capped his season with a trip to the Class A state tournament. Wegscheid was 21-0 in dual meet competition and 32-7 overall.
Senior Dylan Anderson earned the Most Improved award. The heavyweight won 25 of his 38 matches and led the team with 21 pins en route to a state tournament trip.
Other awards went to Devin Barthel (Most Coachable) and Jordan Rentz (Most Dedicated).
Tony Reurink earned the recognition for have the most takedowns, most major decisions and most wins. The state entry was 36-10 with six major decisions and 62 takedowns.
Mitch Steffens was credited with the most technical falls (three).
Steffens joined Anderson, Reurink and Jared and Jacob Wegscheid as all-conference wrestlers. Zach Bernu and Derick Rude received honorable mention.
The Wolverines won 17 of 22 matches and finished as the Section 6A team runner-up behind Border West.
