Wegscheid opening auto repair shop on South Jefferson
Steve Wegscheid had the choice of driving to Brainerd every day or staying closer to home when Wadena GM closed.
The choice was an easy one for Wegscheid. He chose Wadena.
Wegscheid is a Wadena graduate who attended technical college in Wadena. He lives near Hewitt with his family where they tend to 70 head of feeder cattle.
"I've been here all of my life. I know a lot of people around here," Wegscheid said as he stood in the future office of Steve's Alignment and Auto Repair on South Jefferson.
Wegscheid brings 24 years of experience to his new business. He was a Prairie Motors in Long Prairie for seven years and was with Wadena GM for 17 years.
"We're going to do just about everything," Wegscheid said amid the sounds of remodeling work at his 323 Jefferson Street location.
The business may be coming in the doors before Wegscheid can hold his official opening on Oct. 19.
Steve, who is an ASE certified master technician, and his wife, will be joined by ASE technican Ryan Kerkaert in operating the business. More employees may be added but Wegscheid is not in a hurry to hire more staff just yet.
"We have to take it one step at a time," Wegscheid said.
Wegscheid likes his location and plans to have four bays for servicing vehicles. He sees a good future for his business in Wadena based on the volume of work Wadena GM performed.
"We were servicing 500-800 cars a month out there so I know they have to go somewhere," Wegscheid said.
The Wegscheids have three kids -- Jason (24), Sara (19) and Tyler (15).
