A lack of offense held the Wadena-Deer Creek Shockers to just one victory over the weekend in games with Bertha and Fergus Falls.

The Shockers collected just four hits as they opened the weekend of games Friday night with an 11-1 loss to Bertha. Michael Riewer held the Shockers scoreless until the seventh.

Travis George matched Riewer in pitching scoreless baseball for the first three innings but the Blazers jumped on the WDC starter for three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

"Travis looked great in the early innings but left the ball up and they caught up to it," said WDC skipper Randy Jahnke. "We didn't see that coming."

Seth Hamman pitched the final two frames for WDC.

Derek Neu was the only WDC player with two hits. Karl Amundson and Jeremy Schwartz combined for five of Bertha's 11 hits.

Jordan Wohlwend gave the Shockers seven good innings in an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.

"It was a big game and our big pitcher came to throw," said Jahnke.

The Shockers were able to string together eight hits against Matt Hartung. Jamie Nordlund and Travis George led the way with two hits apiece. Schwartz collected a pair of safeties for Bertha.

Derek Hansen's eighth-inning homer gave the Fergus Falls Hurricanes a 3-2 victory over the Shockers Sunday at Deer Creek.

Wadena-Deer Creek jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first but Fergus starter Jamie Jacklitch and reliever Casey Kowalski combined to limit the Shockers to just three hits over nine innings.

Hansen led off the eighth with a round-tripper against WDC reliever J.J. Truax.

Nordlund drove in both runs for the Shockers.

Hansen came up with two of Fergus' six hits.

The Shockers are now 9-10 overall as they prepare for a heavy weekend of action with Bluffton, New York Mills and Perham.
