WDC’s Weber signs with Mayville State football team
Wadena-Deer Creek senior Wyatt Weber signed a letter of intent to play college football for the Mayville State University Comets football team during the 2014 season.
WDC head football coach Howie Kangas said he is excited to see one of his players move on to the next level.
“Wyatt is one of the physically and mentally toughest kids I ever had an opportunity to be around. It isn’t just his talent that makes him special. He is a role model for hard work in practice. He knows how to be a good teammate. He leads by example. His technique is awesome and he has a great sense of humor,” said Kangas, who’s coached Weber the last two years.
Weber was a 5-10 linebacker for the Wolverines. He was named All-Conference his junior and senior year and was a senior co-captain along Nick Carlson. In addition to football, Weber is a standout student-athlete in baseball for WDC.
Mayville State defensive line coach Jason Cline said he is looking forward to having Weber join their team because he brings a strong work ethic to the Comet defense.
“I think that the biggest thing that Wyatt will bring to the Comet defense is a true desire to want to get better. From what I have heard about Wyatt and what I have seen, he isn’t afraid to work,” said Cline, who recruited Weber and is a native of Staples.
Mayville State is a member of the NAIA and the North Star Athletic Association.
