WDC takes three titles
The Wadena-Deer Creek track and field teams captured three titles Thursday in the Mid-State Conference meet at Detroit Lakes.
Caleb Hamman tied a 12-6 effort by Pequot Lakes' Kyle Hart for a piece of the pole vault title.
The WDC girls team racked up a winning relay time in the 4x100 with a 51.84. Brigetta Berg took first in the pole vault with a 9-6.
While it was not a big day for firsts, the Wolverines managed to post eight runner-up finishes.
The WDC boys were second in the 4x100 relay with a 46.91. Dane Hoffman tossed the discus 129-07 for second place.
Brittney Noon ran second for the Wolverines in the 100 and 200 dash events with times of 12.94 and 27.09. Berg was second in the discus with a 105-10.5 and the high jump with a 4-10 effort.
Rachel Craig, Hannah Toedter and Emily Wood scored individual seconds. Craig put the shot 30-10 while Toedter turned the 800 in 2:27.87 and Wood ran the 1,600 in 5:42.60.
The Wolverines were second in the 4x100 relay with a 46.91 and third in the 4x200 with a 1:41.09.
Craig backed up Berg in the discus with a third place toss of 93-10. The WDC boys took third in the 4x200 relay with a 1:41.09.
Pequot Lakes won the boys' title with 180 points while WDC placed fifth with 39. Staples-Motley racked up 150 points to win the girls' title. The WDC girls placed third with 94.
Ganz, Raiders earn second at PRC meet
Josh Ganz led the way Thursday as the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale boys took second in the Park Region Conference meet at Hinckley.
Ganz sprinted to victory in the 100 and 200 dash events with times of 11.92 and 23.85 and won the long jump with a 19-10.5.
Ganz joined Josh Farber, Amos Schmidt and Micah Schuller in running a winning 3:37.65 time in the 4x400 relay.
Schmidt gave the Raiders a first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.52.
Schuller took second in the triple jump with a 38-08.
The Raiders did an excellent job in the relay events. In addition to their winning time in the 4x400, they were second in the 4x800 with a 9:20.93, third in the 4x200 with a 1:38.88 and fifth in the 4x100 with a 49.57.
Farberg went 5-4 in the high jump for third place. Nate Dumbour tossed the discus 104-9 for third.
Pillager won the boys' title with 153 points while the Raiders took second with 101.
The BHV girls came up with three runner-up finishes. Kendra Stokes went 32-04 in the shot, Janessa Weaver tossed the discus 95-03 and the 4x100 relay team ran a 53.91.
Hannah Barrett ran third place times of 18.58 and 52.57 in the 100 and 300 hurdles.
The Raiders placed fourth in the girls' competition with 54 points. Osakis edged Otter Tail Central 144-137 for top honors.
