The Minnesota Band Directors Association Northwest Region Honor Band was held recently at Fergus Falls High School. There were approximately 244 band students from grades 6-10 from the Northwest Region participating in this event. Each school had an opportunity to nominate up to eight members for each band.

WDC Band Director Lisa Weniger said there were so many students nominated for the 6-8 band, that the MBDA Northwest board created a second band for the day. "The board felt it was better to give 70 students the opportunity to be part of a great event versus turning 70 students away," said Weniger.

The day was filled with rehearsals with their guest conductors and sectionals with the Northwest-participating band directors followed by a grand finale concert. Each band was able to perform five selections to a packed audience.

Weniger, who serves as region treasurer on the MBDA Northwest board, said, "This is an excellent opportunity for students to get the chance to play and meet with other students from the area. It is always a pleasure to give students another opportunity to be part of a musical experience."

Weniger and Ken Nelson are the band directors for WDC Public Schools.
