WDC School Board selects architect for high school building project
The Wadena-Deer Creek School board recently selected Perkins+Will as the architect for its high school building project. The WDC High School was severely damaged by tornadoes this summer.
Perkins+Will was one of three firms interviewed by the school board. Based in Minneapolis, Perkins+Will has been designing schools since 1935. They recently completed new high school planning, design and construction projects similar in size as Wadena-Deer Creek High School in the Minnesota communities of Byron and Lake Crystal.
Other larger student-population schools they've designed and constructed in the state include: Brainerd Forestview Middle School, Chanhassen High School, Chaska High School, Edina High School, Moorhead Horizon Middle School and Northfield Middle School.
Part of the process of planning a new school will include community meetings facilitated by Perkins+Will. Wadena-Deer Creek-Bluffton residents are encouraged to participate in the first in a series of community meetings. The first meeting will be Monday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the WDC Elementary cafeteria.
The goal of the community meetings will be to help translate a community's vision into a flexible, sustainable facilities plan for years to come. For more details on the high school's community planning meetings, visit WDC Schools' website at www.wdc2155.k12.mn.us.
