WDC girls fall to Pelican Rapids

The Wadena ladies fell to Pelican Rapids Dec. 17 with a final score of 74-43 in favor of the Vikings.

The Vikings dominated in the first half, scoring 39 points to the Wolverines 17. The Wolverines battled back in the second half, netting 26 points, but the Vikings held their lead with an additional 35 points to clinch the victory.

Vikings' Mackenzie Korf led with 29 points. Grace Forsgren also put up double digits, earning 12 points.

Wolverine senior Hope Theisen was the top scorer for Wadena with 18 points. Jennifer Craig followed closely behind with 9 points. Craig and Rachel Schwartz came dangerously close to fouling out with four fouls a piece.

The Wolverines struggled with their field goal percentage with a 24 percent success rate.

Wolverines suffer loss to Eagles 73-51

The Wolverines lost to the Eagles in New York Mills Thursday night.

The Eagles found the net for every field goal attempt, earning a 100 percent sucess rate. They were less successful with their free throw attempts, making 66 percent of their shots.

In contrast, the Wolverines made just 32 percent of their field goal attempts but matched the Eagles with their free throw percentage.

The young Wadena team is improving however, coach Keith Ferris said.

"Each game we are showing improvements but when we dig a 20 point deficit right away it is hard to climb back."

The ladies will host their first match of 2014 when they challenge Long Prairie/Grey Eagle at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 3.
