The Wadena-Deer Creek Drama Department will present "An Ode to Jane Austen: Footsteps Die Out Forever" as this year's one-act play. It is an original piece written by WDC English teacher Jay Patterson.
"I have a mother-in-law 88 years young and when I visit her at coffee time in an assisted-living facility, I have a chance to listen to all of the residents as they talk about odds and ends. So I wrote a play about elderly ladies and their troubles," explained Patterson, who has written numerous plays for high school productions.
This week, students auditioned for the play reading two excerpts from the script. Twenty students will make up the cast, along with additional students who assist with costuming, make-up and set-building. A public performance will take place on Jan. 28 in Memorial Auditorium.
