WDC Boys Basketball Wins Sebeka Holiday Tournament

The WDC boys' basketball team found just the right time to come together as a team over the winter break. On Friday Dec. 27, the Wolverines came away with a convincing win over Northland-Remer with an 88-63 victory.

"Right from the opening tip we were in the attack mode on offense creating open shots for several players. More importantly we made the extra pass and played together as a team which made all the difference," coach Jason Mielke said.

The Wolverines were led in scoring by seniors Jared Reinitz (27) and Dylan Dumpprope (25). Along with their great shooting nights, Blake Connell did a great job of running the point guard and distributing the ball to several players for easy looks at the basket. In all WDC had ten players score in the game to advance to the championship game against New York Mills on Dec. 28.

In a hard fought battle against their area rival, the Wolverines once again came away with a victory by the final score of 62-53 to win the championship. A game that saw the score stay tight throughout, neither team held a greater than six point lead until WDC made free throws down the stretch to pull away.

"This was a great effort by our guys on the defensive end holding down several of New York Mills scorers," said Mielke.

Reinitz once again led the way offensively with 23 points however it was the contributions by sophomore Alex Redfield that helped close-out the win for WDC.

Team members of the championship team include, seniors Jared Reinitz, Dylan Dumpprope, Jacob Goeden, Isaac Laughlin, Ricky Price, Jordan Folkestad, Tristen LeComte; juniors Blake Connell, Matthew Quincer, Ian Olson; sophmores Jack Goeden, Alex Redfield, Tanner Horn, Wyatt Fitzsimmons, Alex Carlson, Joe Wallgren and freshmen Dacotah Mittag.
