WDC American Legion gains split
Ryan Redfield, Kenny Sakry and Christian Berg combined for six hits, six runs and two RBIs Tuesday Wadena-Deer Creek rallied for a split in their American Legion baseball doubleheader with Park Rapids.
The visiting Park Rapids crew edged WDC 7-6 in the opener as David Dirks went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Drew Bade went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Cory Odland went all the way for the mound win and held WDC to one run over the final four frames.
Berg went 3-for-3, doubled and drove in two runs for WDC. Jake Rude went 2-for-4 with a double and one ribbie.
Jeremy Hoemberg got the nod for WDC and worked until the fifth when he turned the pitching over to Redfield.
Game 2 saw WDC grabbing a 4-1 lead after three innings and then answering a three-run rally by Park Rapids in the fourth with one of their own.
Sakry combined to handle WDC's pitching along with Berg and Jonathan Goeden, who was credited with the win.
No Park Rapids player came up with more than one hit in the loss.
Both clubs had rough nights in the field with WDC committing nine miscues and Park Rapids committing 14.

David Najjar and Jonathan Goeden were the winning hurlers in a June 7 sweep of the Walker Legion squad.
Najjar combined with Jake Rude to fire six shutout innings in the opener. Najjar fanned five and walked four in five innings of work. Rude scattered three hits over the last two frames.
Rude and Cory Tumberg both homered for the WDC Legion. Jake Krause collected three hits, a triple, two runs and one RBI in the win. Sakry and Wyatt Weber both had two safeties.
Goeden replaced starter Ricky Price in the third to pick up the mound victory in Game two.
Park Rapids pitching held WDC in check for two innings before a three-run third erased a 2-0 advantage.
Najjar and Price both went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the win. Krause was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Sakry collected one hit and scored once.
WDC played errorless ball and Walker was guilty of just two.
