Wayne Robert Maroney
The Mass of Christian Burial for Wayne Robert Maroney of Long Prairie, and formerly of Wadena and Park Rapids, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2013 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of mass at the church. Wayne passed away at the age of 85 years on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Centra-Care Hospital in Long Prairie, MN.
Wayne Robert Maroney was born to Howard and Clara (Fischer) on April 2, 1928 in Wadena, MN.
Wayne and Wanda (Gallagher) chose June 5, 1948, to be united in marriage at St. Anns Catholic Church in Wadena. Wayne will be remembered as owner and operator of Waynes Coffee Shop and Waynes Furniture Store. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Wadena Fire Department for 28 years, and served first as a city councilman and then mayor in Wadena. Wayne enjoyed bowling, golf, badminton, hunting, and sharing good food with family and friends. He created many family memories, many of them around the campfire at the lake. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Clara; and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife Wanda of Long Prairie; sons Tom (Kathy) Maroney of Halstad and David (Julie) Maroney of Eden Prairie; daughters Linda (David) Stormoen of Eagle Bend and Vicki (Ross) Munson of Long Prairie; 12 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Glen (Ruth) Maroney of Crystal and Robert (Nancy) Maroney of Walker; sister-in-law Lorraine Gallagher of Wadena; and brother-in-law Dr. Larry Gallagher of Mound.
Pallbearers will be Michael Stormoen, Jason Tiegen, Steven Maroney, Trey Maroney, Jason Polovick, and Peter Peyerl.
Burial will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Wadena.
