Warriors overpower Wolverines 28-8
The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines were held to 66 yards on the ground Friday night as they fell to United North Central 28-6 at Sebeka.
Jeremy Nordick's Warriors concentrated on stopping WDC standout Logan Meyer and held the senior back to 39 yards on seven carries.
With the running lanes pinched off, the Wolverines turned to the air and quarterback Evan VanErp hit Jeremy Sherman with a five-yard scoring pass to get WDC on the scoreboard in the second quarter.
VanErp was 10 of 24 with his passing for 100 yards.
Jake Meyer led the Wolverines with three catches for 39 yards. Meyer also grabbed three passes but was held to only 16 yards. Matt Laughlin pulled down two aerials for 35 yards.
Rude and Sherman had interceptions for the Wolverines. Jacob Ludovissie made 11 solo tackles and added five assists. Meyer came up with nine solos, five assists and one sack. Jacob Krause and Mason Lohmiller combined for 13 unassisted tackles and 13 assists.
Dylan Huttunen scored on two one-yard runs and one three-yard carry. Markus Tolkkinen logged 297 yards on 31 carries, caught two passes for 20 yards and scored on a four-yard jaunt.
The Wolverines will travel to Upsala Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
