Warren Bernard Schmitz, 72, passed away with family by his side on Feb. 3, 2010, at his home in Wadena.
He was born April 1, 1937 to Dempsey and Myrtle (Keller) Schmitz in Wadena. Warren was united in marriage with Donna Buckhouse on April 12, 1958 in Wadena. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. He retired from his work in construction, having belonged to the 49ers Union. He was a member of the American Legion, Knobhill Sportsman Club and the National Rifle Association. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, time at the lake, and especially time spent with his family.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Feb. 5 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena, with the Rev. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena. Pallbearers were Jeff Holland, Mike Kitchenmaster, Bruce Richter, Mark Richter, Jeff Warwick, and Calvin Schultz. Interment was in the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his devoted wife, Donna; son, Steven of Wadena; daughter, Barbara Schmitz of Ramsey; grandson, Evin; brother, Gerald Schmitz, and sister, Wanda Zierden, both of Palm Harbor, Fla.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle; son Daniel; and step-father George Johnson.
