Wanted: dairy farmer daughters
The Wadena County Dairy Association is seeking girls to represent the hard working farmers as the Wadena County Dairy Princesses. These girls will serve as goodwill ambassadors for the dairy industry by appearing at various promotional events and speaking with consumers and the media. Eligible candidates will also receive a reimbursement for their time and appearances at most events.
To be eligible, a candidate must be a high school graduate by July 1 but not yet 24 years old with a strong knowledge of the dairy industry and show leadership qualities. She or her parents must be actively engaged in the production of milk to a licensed plant during the current year. A candidate also qualifies if she or her parents are employed on a dairy farm or in a dairy related capacity.
Junior ambassador candidates must be between ages 14-16 with dairy knowledge, leadership potential, and a willingness to learn.
Both divisions will be judged on communication skills, personality, enthusiasm for dairy promotion, and general knowledge of the dairy industry. Both will represent the industry at the county level with an opportunity for the senior dairy princesses to advance to a training seminar in May. In addition to learning new skills that can be used the rest of their lives, the young ladies also will be competing for one of the 12 spots for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way competition.
An informational meeting will be held Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. in the basement of the Pizza Ranch in Wadena. Organizers will further discuss the competition and expectations at that time. For any additional information feel free to contact Becky Iken at (218) 371-6990.
