Wangsness sets winning pace in 110 hurdles

Wadena-Deer Creek’s Brody Wangsness racked up first place honors in the 110 hurdles Tuesday at the Mid-State Conference track and field meet in Crosby.

Wangsness ran a 16.43 in the 110 and then placed fifth in the 300 hurdles with a 46.22.

“He ran his fastest time by .65 seconds in those 110 hurdles,” WDC Head Coach Terry Olson.

The victory gave the WDC sophomore all-conference honors for the first time.

Sutton Lohmiller placed third in the shot put with a 42-5.5 for WDC and Bridger Pettit took fourth in the 400 with a 2:13.70.

The Wolverines saw their 4x200 relay team place second with a time of 1:40.52. Joining Pettit on the team were Chris Steward, Konnor Stueve and Shane Motschenbacher.  WDC’s 4x800 relay squad placed third with a 9:09.90. The team consisted of Pettit, Motschenbacher, Toby Wood and Will Eliason.

Brian Huber of Staples-Motley won four events. Huber ran the 100 dash in 10.71 and won the 200 dash with a 22.13. He went 20-8.5 in the long jump and 6-6 in the high jump.

The winning Detroit Lakes boys’ track and field team won three relay events en route to racking up 220 points.

Autumn Jahnke led the WDC girls with a runner-up effort of 8-6 in the pole vault. Detroit Lakes’ Kyley Foster won the pole vault by clearing the bar at nine feet.

WDC’s 4x800 relay ran a 10:45.42 to place fourth. The team consisted of Emma Schmitz, Tiffany Meeks, Hannah Vorderbruggen and Danyel Post.

Emma Schmitz was fifth in the 3,200 run with a 13:11.10.

Staples-Motley’s Jaelin Beachy notched firsts in the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 14.82 and 48.26 and won the long jump with a 16-3 effort.

Detroit Lakes won the girls’ meet with 222 points.
