Wangsness claims first at John Reimer Invite

Wadena-Deer Creek’s Brody Wangsness ran a first in the 110 hurdles April 25 at the John Reimer Invitational in Pillager.

Wangsness turned in a time of 17.08 as the Wolverines competed in their first outdoor track and field meet of the year.

Joining Wangsness with a strong individual performance was Will Eliason who took fourth in the 3,200 run with a time of 11:09.15 and claimed fifth in the 800 with a 2:16.78.

The Wolverines were fourth in the boys’ 4x200 relay with a time of 1:44.69.

Emma Schmitz, a two-time state qualifier in cross country, gave the Wolverines runner-up points in the 3,200 run with a time of 12:43.25. Pole vaulting standout Autumn Jahnke took third by clearing the bar at 7-6.

Justin Gordon gave Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale points in three events. Gordon was third in the high jump with a 5-8, fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.69 and fifth in the 300 hurdles with a 46.27.

Kasey Willis won the 300 hurdles for BHV with a 50.53 time. Rumor Stokes gave the Raiders a fourth in the high jump by clearing 4-6 and BHV’s 4x200 relay team took fourth with a 2:01.77.
