Walker nine sweeps BHV Legion 18-5, 7-0

Dakota Hall and Austin Richter combined for eight RBIs in Game 1 and Austin Becker tossed a three-hitter in the nightcap Thursday as Walker/Nevis defeated the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Legion 18-5 and 7-0 at Anderson Park.

Walker/Nevis collected 12 hits and took advantage of five BHV errors in dominating the first game. The Walker/Nevis crew broke the game open in the third inning with an eight-run uprising.

Logan Gross, Byran Sea and Brett Byer all scored three times in the victory.

The BHV Legion was already trailing 13-0 when the scored four times in the bottom of the fourth.

Zach A. Johnson went 3-for-4, scored once and drove in a run for BHV. Travis Eckel went 2-for-4.

Richter started for Walker and went 3 ⅓ innings before giving way to Byer. Alex Copa started for BHV and got relief help from Eckel, Johnson and Matt Lipinski.

Walker/Nevis pitching allowed nine walks and BHV hurlers surrendered seven free passes. Both clubs left nine men aboard.

Austin Becker's three-hit beauty lifted Walker to a 7-0 shutout in Game 2. Becker walked two and fanned six in a five-inning performance.

Gavin Hitchcock and Nate Goehring drove in two runs apiece for Walker.

Eckel, Preston Riewer and Luke Weniger collected BHV's three hits.

Preston Riewer was hung with the loss.

BHV 5-1, Blackduck 4-2

Travis Eckel hammered a three-run homer and Ethan Korfe contributed a two-run double Monday as BHV earned a split at Blackduck.

Eckel homered with Korfe and Luke Weniger aboard in the fifth. Korfe's two-run double came in the third after Joe VanDenheuvel and Preston Riewer both singled.

Riewer went all the way on the mound to notch the victory. The strikeout artist scattered six hits and four walks while fanning nine.

Zach A. Johnson and Jordan Fretham came up with BHV's only hits in Game 2.

Blackduck pushed the winning run across in the bottom of the fifth.

Korfe shouldered the pitching loss.
