Wadena's Johnson elected at ELCA convention
The 22nd Annual Convention of the Northwestern Minnesota Synodical Organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) was held in Moorhead on Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Nearly 190 women participated in an inspirational time of worship, entertainment and fellowship around the theme "Called From the Waters." During the Friday evening business session, Elaine Scheer, Hawley, was elected as president and Georjean Johnson, Wadena, was elected as treasurer. Elected to two-year positions on the board were Rhoda Habedank, Twin Valley; Arlene Teigen, Moorhead; and Rachel Ronnevik, Rothsay. The evening was rounded out with a banquet and entertainment by the nine women of Heart of Worship of the Red Lake Falls area.
Saturday began in worship with Holy Communion with the bishop of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA, the Rev. Larry Wohlrabe, delivering the sermon. Saturday's keynote speaker was Ruth Werner who spoke on "Escape from the Red Army," her first-hand experience as a child during the end of World War II. The Rev. Dan Megorden of Good Shepherd led the afternoon Bible Study and the day ended with the inspirational speaker, Sharon Ness who spoke on "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands."
