Wadena players help Park Rapids earn state tournament berth

The Park Rapids Pee Wee hockey team is headed to the state tournament after a 2-1 overtime victory over Bemidji at the North Regional Tournament in Sauk Centre on Sunday. There are some familiar faces on that team.

The team is comprised of eight players from the Wadena Hockey Association as well as head Coach Chris Lund who were displaced after a tornado destroyed the arena in Wadena. These players are Dylan McManigle (Wadena), Wyatt Ostrander (New York Mills), Micah Barrett (Wadena), Evan Holm (Staples), Toby Wood (Aldrich), Adam Lund (Wadena), Tyler Helling (Staples) and Dylan Phillips (Wadena).

The game was tied with four seconds remaining in regulation by Dylan Phillips.

Adam Lund scored the game winner in overtime. Phillips led all tournament scorers with 17 points.

The Panthers head into state with a record of 27-11.

Park Rapids will tangle with Rosemount in the first round of the state tournament March 25-27 in Stillwater.
