Wadena nursing instructors co-author textbook
Tammy Hale and Patricia Ahlschlager, nursing faculty members at M State-Wadena, have co-authored a textbook for use in training LPN and RN nursing students.
The two colleagues have written "Simulation Scenarios for Nursing Education," which was published in March by Delmar Cengage Learning. The book contains 10 different scenarios for use with human patient simulators.
There are separate scenarios for the LPN and the RN levels in both the instructor and student editions of the textbook. The student edition includes an introduction to each of the scenarios and a case study for students to complete.
"As educators, we use simulation on a frequent basis and fully understand the time involved in constructing quality scenarios," Ahlschlager said. "Our unsuccessful attempts to find a textbook with pre-written simulation scenarios sparked our interest in writing a book."
Hale has been a nursing instructor at M State - Wadena since 2004, and her clinical background is in critical and emergency care. Ahlschlager has been a nursing instructor in Wadena since 2005. Her clinical background is in teaching, management, IV therapy specialty and critical care. Both earned master's degrees in nursing education at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
